Check out all the new shows on the right there... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- WHITE LUNG IN WIRE MAGAZINE Here's a cool review by Byron Coley from the March issue of Wire. Pretty friggin rad. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATES! The white vinyl run of White Lung's debut 7 inch is all gone! You are all at Ebay's mercy from now on. We still have some black vinyl copies left in the store though, make sure to pick some up before that is gone as well. I've heard they are recording their new 7 inch for Deranged very soon, so also make sure to check that out when it is available! Defektors have almost finished up their songs for the next Hockey Dad release. They sound great, I can't wait to get that record out, people are going to FREAK OUT. They've also been laying low on the show front, whenever they do decide to play next, make sure you go! I was talking with some friends about how Mint Records used to tape records for people if they sent a blank cassettte and realized that was a very very cool thing to do. So I'm going to do it! Just send me a blank cassette and $3 (you can do that through paypal if you want) and I'll tape you any Hockey Dad release (even out of print records) and mail it back. Right on! Send a tape today! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- WHITE LUNG RETURNS! for real this time: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Hockey Dad all 2.0 up in it. Wow, a Hockey Dad website and it's not even geocities! Some updates: DEFEKTORS! Vancouver's next big thing have been playing so many shows lately that it's suprising that they don't have a record out yet. The three peice bashes out a stompy and powerful caveman-esque Joy Division on KBD that is so un-forgettable that the world will soon be lapping up every square inch of vinyl they release. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- HDR on the CiTR top 100 of the year! a couple Hockey Dad releases made their way onto the top 100 of the year for CiTR: at #70 we have the Bloggers self titled debut... and at 3rd place is the limited edition FUN 100 EP made for the last couple shows. if you don't have it, you can download it here. thanks CiTR! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- White Lung Local Garbage Reviews! From Exclaim! Magazine: White Lung Featuring members of the Riff Randells and the now-defunct Automatic Fancy, Vancouver's White Lung combine the restlessness of Wipers-infused garage punk with a messy Kill Rock Stars aesthetic. Local Garbage, the band's debut seven-inch, goes straight for the jugular, demonstrating the band's ability to write classic-sounding punk songs with new ideas. "Local Garbage" fills the A-side with a plodding bass line that leaves room for the angular guitar and pissed-off vocals. "Breaking Boxes" starts the B-side with a more melodic approach, replete with infectious guitar work and a pulsing rhythm section. Finishing the record, "Amy White Out" builds off scraped guitar to create a song that's both angular and memorable. By employing three unique ideas in such a short time, White Lung demonstrate their versatility and suggest big things to come with future releases. (Hockey Dad) - Josiah Hughes From Streethawk magazine: White Lung It’s probably a major music writer faux pas to directly rip off the label write up when describing a record, but when it’s bang on, what are you going to do? The guy that put out this slab of vinyl describes White Lung as “Bikini Kill covering Wire at your favourite punk house,” and it’s hard to come up with something more accurate. White Lung’s first release (outside of some home job cassettes) is characterized by instrumentation that takes Pink Flag’s economical riffage and injects a little more looseness into the proceedings, with singer, Mish, doing her best Kathleen Hanna over top of the din. It’s also worth noting – with no disrespect to Wire, because they’re awesome – that Colin Newman and his band of limey art school drop outs sort of sound like pansies. White Lung comes off as anything but. Teaming the title track with “Amy White Out” and “Breaking Boxes” on the flipside, the only drawback to this “debut” is that it’s a bit of a tease at a mere three songs long. With the band currently on hiatus (Mish is overseas until the New Year), sadly, this is all we’re going to get for awhile too. --Quinn Omori, Nov 11, 2007 |
